So, in order for a broader range of cyclists to dip their toes in long(-ish) distance cycling and randonneuring and to capture the spirit of the Vertical Brevet, we'll be hosting a series of Brevet Discovery Rides in the season leading up to the actual Brevet.

This will be the first of three Discovery Rides and take you on a 100km journey through the Vertical Coffee backyard on small roads. The ride is divided into three loops, each starting and finishing at Vertical Coffee HQ where you can refuel with coffee and snacks, have a change of clothes and socialize while off the bike. You can choose the order in which you’d like to ride the loops and are free to ride together with others.

The Discovery Ride is unsupported, meaning you will need to take care of navigation, mechanicals (in the unfortunate event) and fuelling en-route.

GPX files of the routes will be sent out a week before the event.

The OPEN RIDE by Züri Velo Cup is part of the fringe events for the 2024 Road Cycling World Championships which will be held in Zurich next autumn. As the name says, it is a ride open for everyone and to be ridden at their own pace and in their own group (or alone if you like). The parcours of 165km will take you through the Zurich Hinterland including eleven iconic segments which were included in the legendary “Züri Metzgete”, a top-tier race held from 1917-2006 with winners including some very big names of the sport like Bartali, Koblet, Kübler, Moser, De Vlaeminck, Maertens and Museeuw just to name a few.

Along the route, there will be three aid stations, one of which will serve the tastiest coffee around (guess who will be there!) as well as various snacks and cooldrinks. All free of charge, all you need is to register, show up and ride! If you ride all eleven segments, you are also eligible for a pair of limited edition Züri Velo Cup Socks.

Der Züri Velo Cup OPEN RIDE ist Teil der Aktivierungskampagne für die Strassen-Rad-WM, welche nächsten Herbst in Zürich stattfinden wird. Der Ride ist offen für alle und kann in beliebigem Tempo und beliebiger Gruppenzusammensetzung gefahren werden. Die 165km lange Strecke führt durchs Zürcher Hinterland und beinhaltet elf ikonische Segmente, welche Teil der Züri Metzgete waren - das grösste Schweizer Eintagesrennen zwischen 1917 und 2006 mit ganz grossen Namen wie Bartali, Koblet, Kübler, Moser, De Vlaeminck, Maertens und Museeuw auf der Siegerliste.

The GP Rüebliland has been one of the most important development stage races of the past 40 years. And for the first time in it’s history, there’ll be really tasty coffee to kick off the event!

So even if you may not be riding - it’s a great opportunity to watch the new generation of bike racers and catch us alongside the coffee truck

The third edition of the Vertical Brevet will be held in the same format as last year’s: Riders will spend a long day in the saddle and ride a total of approximately 250km and climbing over 5’000m. To make things a bit easier, the route will be split into four loops and to make things a bit harder, the order of the loops will be drawn randomly as the day goes on.

Those who rode it last year are still sharing the war stories - next to tasty coffee and snacks at the roastery between loops, there’s nothing to win but long lasting memories!

Participation will be limited to 45 riders - 15 solo riders and 15 pairs.
